St. John’s works with ICRH twice each year to provide Breakfast and Dinner service as well as staff and guest support. The work for each area is outlined below. Our week is November 9 – 15.
Breakfast: The guests at ICRH typically receive a continental breakfast, but St. John’s has a reputation for providing a hot breakfast. If you are so inclined, please sign up to provide a breakfast casserole or other hot breakfast item (pancakes, sausage, hot cinnamon rolls, etc.). There is a full kitchen to cook or heat up items as needed. Otherwise, ICRH provides cold cereal, fruit, pop tarts, and muffins. Your job would be to serve the items, then put away and clean the tables and kitchen. In the past, very few guests partake of breakfast – maybe 5 or 6 folks.
Dinner: There are four local restaurants or organizations that provide meals weekly, and because the local restaurants bring so much food, Friday (or Saturday) night is reserved for leftovers, so we only have two dinner slots available to actually make a dinner. If you would like to make a dinner for the guests, just sign up for the evening of your choice. About one week prior to your designated slot, you’ll be notified of the number of guests and if there are any dietary restrictions. We’ll make sure there are enough people signed up to help you. You just bring the dinner in (or make it there), serve it, then clean up.
Evening: The evening shift runs from 7 pm – 10 pm. You would spend this time talking to the guests, playing games, doing crafts, or helping the staff, as needed.
Overnight: There is also a need for people to stay overnight. The overnight time is divided into two shifts. There is a staff person available, but only one, so if they are handling something, there is a need for someone else to be on hand. It is normally a very quiet time so it’s a good way to catch up on reading, homework, or other projects.
If you have any questions, see Laura Cochrane, Ulana Klymyshyn, DJ Proctor, Matthew Kinney, or Alice Ciccu.
